Mayfield is positioned in an idyllic rural position surrounded by open countryside. There are exceptional places for walking and many well-regarded country pubs close by and the location offers easy access onto the A34 and M4 at junction 13. Highclere is 4½ miles to the south of Newbury where Highclere Castle (the home of Downton Abbey) is located. From Newbury take the A339 heading south. At The Swan pub roundabout take the second exit onto the B4640 towards the A34. At the next roundabout take the first turning left, signposted towards Burghclere and Highclere Castle. At the T Junction turn right. Follow this road for approximately 1.5 miles passing the Carnarvon Arms on the right. Proceed down the hill and turn left towards Old Burghclere. Mayfield is found after a short distance on the left.
