Belgrave Homes Ltd, in conjunction with University of Reading and Fforest Timber Engineering, has been awarded a grant from Innovate UK, for a 1 year study project to develop integrated supply chain processes in off-site building for the small UK house building sector.
Starting in January, the three companies will collaborate to produce documents and processes that will support and progress the offsite supply sector using timber frames. Market analysis will aim to promote the benefits of this construction, including consistently high quality, speed of construction and costs, as well as a 5 year Roadmap to further develop the sector.
Timber and prefabrication has been used for many years, although not extensively in the UK, and this study will highlight the need to extend this methodology throughout the house building industry including small builders where there is a pressing need.
Belgrave has chosen a site in SE England that will be an excellent case study and will compare the use of timber with traditional building methods. Anyone who has an interest or may be able to contribute is invited to contact Belgrave Homes for more information.
